High style--cruelty free. When I first checked out the Spring Fashion Trends as reported by Harper's Bazaar following New York Fashion Week, I cringed when I came to the "Leather Up" trend--as any compassionate fashionista would. But, I wanted to create a set for the trend nonetheless. Not to in any way support or encourage the wearing of leather--far from it. I wanted to demonstrate that you can look just as stylish--more so, in my opinion--without the taking of a life. And so, I present this ensemble which features vegan (faux) leather attire and accessories. Now, I didn't go all out in pleather the way the NYFW designers of these outfits did, but...I could. There are all kinds of faux/vegan leather options out there. All you gotta do is do what my mama said--you gotta shop around. Be stylish in your own skin. Compassion--it's always in fashion.

On Thursday, April 18, 2013, the comic book world and a few folks in the real world marked the 75th anniversary of the birth of Superman. The alter ego of Clark Kent was born in the imagination of two teenage boys in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. In fact, I now live in the house previously owned by the ex-wife and son of one of the creators. Clark Kent/Superman embodies a lot of ideals that are just as valuable today as they were when the original concept for the character was developed. An ethical superhero who never killed the bad guy, who fought for truth and justice--not vengeance. A stranger in our world. Different. Faster and stronger than any one else on the planet, yet he chooses to use that power for good and the betterment of others. Of the classic superheroes, I think I would actually pick Superman as my favorite, and so I thought I'd create an ensemble honoring my No. 1. ...Although, to be fair, Spiderman and Batman are tied for second. I mean, a photographer and a billionaire philanthropist crime fighter...what's not to love about their origin stories. So, without further adieu -- happy 75th birthday, Superman. You haven't aged a day...not really.

You can even mix up and sip a festive little "pumpkin pie" cocktail (sorry--this one has some calories in it!).
